Environmental Commission Approves 2K-Acre Austin Green PUD

Austin’s Environmental Commission unanimously approved a public utility district (PUD) for the planned Austin Green, a 2,122-acre master-planned community on the metro’s east side. Furthermore, to support housing development and provide residential services, a municipal city district (MUD) was formed to encompass the development on Harold Green Road. The Austin City Council approved the Austin Green MUD at its recent meeting; the proposed bond obligation is $995 million.

Austin Green will be built on what is now a sand and gravel quarry, and will offer single-family housing and apartments, as well as more than two million square feet of commercial space, 700 acres of parkland and a three-acre fire station. GroundWork Development is the project developer, with buildout anticipated to take 30 years.
