Education about CREMM: Q&A with Michelle Carroll

Commercial Real Estate Millennial Misses (CREMM) was launched to bring together millennial women working in commercial real estate in Houston. “Our close-knit group of members contains individuals who span several facets of the commercial real estate world,” the CREMM website notes. Connect Media recently caught up with Michelle (Shelly) Carroll with Charter Title Co., and who serves as president of CREMM, to ask about the organization.

Q. Can you provide a brief background about CREMM?
A. CREMM was founded in 2015 by our current board as a way for millennial women working in commercial real estate to form real connections with other women in the industry. After running into each other at industry events, and realizing the small number of millennial women in attendance, we decided there was a need for a group to establish familiarity. We started out small, but as word has spread, we have increased our membership by more than double in 2017.

Q. What are some of the challenges facing younger women who want careers in commercial real estate?
A. One of the main challenges faced by millennial women in the CRE industry is breaking into the industry and making a name for yourself. Commercial real estate is a local and tight-knit business. CREMM helps address this challenge by allowing millennial women to create a network of their own, and supporting each other when attending other commercial real estate events. This familiarity facilitates a means for business to be completed easier and faster, and for each member to have trusted career advisors in their field.

Q. Are you planning to expand from Houston, where  you are currently headquartered?
A. As for now, we are not planning on expanding, but are more than happy to consult with interested groups in other cities.
