Edinburg Hits Job Creation Record in March
Edinburg, TX’s annual job-creation number hit an all-time record in March, 2017, clocking in at 36,851 jobs, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. This compares to the metro’s annual job creation of 36,340, reported in March 2016. Additionally, the city’s 6.1% unemployment rate was the second-lowest among the Rio Grande Valley economies.
According to Edinburg Mayor Richard Garcia, the increasing number of jobs has gotten notice “throughout Texas and beyond,” with Wallethub recently naming Edinburg number five among the most improved cities since the recession.
In fact, the city underwent a construction boom that began in 2008. “We decided that, instead of taking a wait-and-see approach, to proceed full-force ahead with city projects,” the mayor said. “That, and careful planning, has been our recipe for success.”
