Drone Think Tank Lands in San Bernardino
A drone research center is being planned for San Bernardino International Airport. The airport is partnering with Los Angeles-based Tesla Foundation Group to bring the National Commercial Drone Research Center to the 1,329-acre site.
Officials from the airport and Tesla Foundation Group, which is unrelated to Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors, are working to secure partners, resources and systems needed to create an advanced commercial use drone and technology center. If all goes well, the “think tank” R&D center could open next year.
The location is ideally placed near a host of supply chain and logistics related facilities surrounding the airport, including Amazon, which plans to implement drone delivery. The center is expected to create jobs and provide academic opportunities, resulting from a planned connection with San Bernardino Community College District.
