Downtown Santa Ana Catering to Latino Retailers
The Santa Ana City Council passed a measure that could make Fourth Street in its downtown a place that actively encourages Latino-owned retail businesses. A council resolution that will need final approval after it is drafted will rebrand the street “Calle Cuatro” and created what it is calling a Wellness District that will promote the launch of Latino businesses.
Business owners hope that it will better serve Santa Ana’s large Latino population as well as attract visitors who want a taste of the culture. There is also talk of creating a mercadito downtown that would sell crafts and other items.
Stores coming into downtown have of late focused on a millennials and hipsters as opposed to Latino immigrants.
