Downtown Parking Lot Could Become $279M-MXU Nexus

A city-owned, shuttered parking lot at North Fourth Street and West Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee could have a second chance as a mixed-use development, called Nexus. Local developer Jackson Street Holdings submitted a proposal that would offer three hotels totaling 506 guestrooms, along with 22,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. Also on tap is 100,000 square feet of convention space.

The public-private investment for the project would total $279 million. The proposal noted that the city of Milwaukee would fund improvements concerning the streetcar route and station. Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Center District would provide funding for, and own, the convention and meeting facilities. The hotels and retail components would be privately owned and operated.
