Downtown Oakland Development Club Gets More Crowded
Developers are moving forward on plans for two more towers in Oakland, part of a building boom that promises to dramatically reshape downtown.
One proposed project at 314 Franklin St., reportedly by developer Carmel Partners, would be one of Oakland’s largest housing projects. The two-building residential apartment complex totals 575 units, including 200 units in a five-story building, and 375 units in a 27-story tower.
A second project on the boards is a 15-story tower on a 15,000-square-foot site at 1261 Harrison St., currently occupied by a single-story retail building. Mystery surrounds the proposal submitted by a development consultant. Property records from 2015 showed the owners as Ho Wai and Chun Mui Ho, though the site was reportedly sold this month for $5.9 million to an undisclosed buyer.
