Downtown Church Exploring Redevelopment Possibilities

Travis Park United Methodist Church in downtown San Antonio issued a request for interest (RFI) for help in determining “creative solutions” to help boost revenue and activity from its properties at Navarro and Travis Streets. The mid-19th century sanctuary building at 203 E. Travis St. isn’t on tap for redevelopment, however.

Rather, the church would like to renovate the surrounding buildings and adjacent parking lot. “I’ve lost count of the number of meetings where we agonize over space that we’re not using, and how we could use it differently,” church member Brock Curry told Rivard Report.

At this time, the three surrounding buildings, which house children, youth and educational activities, are used only a few hours each week. Church officials are open to all possibilities that could include a sale, leasing opportunities or joint ventures, Curry said.
