Disneyland Celebrates 63 Years with a Tribute to 1955’s Opening Day
Disneyland Resort marked its 63rd anniversary Tuesday with a tribute to Disneyland Park’s opening on July 17, 1955. When Walt Disney debuted the theme park, it had 18 attractions, no Disney hotels and little but orange groves surrounding the park.
The original theme park has expanded to become a roughly 500-acre world-class family resort destination, encompassing two renowned Disney theme parks, nearly 100 attractions, three hotels and a shopping, dining and entertainment district known as Downtown Disney. Since 1955, dignitaries, heads of state, celebrities and more than 800 million guests have passed through Disneyland’s gates.
The resort hosted a first-ever Pixar Fest, which runs through Sept. 3, to commemorate the more than six decades of inspiration and innovation. Disneyland commemorated its role as the original Disney theme park Tuesday with festivities that included the “Happiest March on Earth” down Main Street, U.S.A.
