Developer Proposes Transit Hub, High-Rises on 34 Lakefront Acres

Landmark Development has released plans for One Central, which aims to create the largest public transit hub in the Chicago area, while also building high-rises on 34 underutilized acres along South Lake Shore Drive. The proposed site, which sits above and around an existing rail yard, is located immediately north of McCormick Place and just west of Soldier Field.

“There is no single location in the entire country that has the potential this site does,” said Robert Dunn, president of Landmark Development.

Referring to the 1909 Plan of Chicago devised by Daniel Burnham, Dunn added, “One Central builds on the Burnham Plan vision by connecting transit, civic and community interests at one lakefront destination.”

The concept, which will not require any tax increment financing from the city, was discussed publicly for the first time at a town hall meeting hosted by Ald. Pat Dowell on Wednesday night.
