Design-Build Team Chosen for Bridge Connecting Detroit, Ontario

Bridging North America, a partnership of Fluor and ACS Infrastructure Canada, has been selected to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Gordie Howe International Bridge project between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The project will link Interstates 75 and 96 in Michigan, with the new extension of Highway 401 in Ontario.

The Bridging North America partnership, which previously collaborated on the Highway 401 extension, led the development phase of the Gordie Howe project and will hold the prime contract. When complete, this crossing will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.

The scope also includes building new ports of entry on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the Detroit River, and improvements to existing infrastructure in both Michigan and Ontario. Fluor and ACS will operate and maintain the facility for 30 years, to standards that will be established by the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.
