Decision Delayed on SoCalGas Transmission Pipeline
Approval of Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas & Electric’s proposed 65-mile natural gas pipeline has been delayed again. The California Public Utilities Commission pushed off a vote on the North-South Project to give it more time to review.
The project is designed to increase the reliability of supplies to customers and of the power generators supporting the electricity grid. Two primary components include a 36-inch diameter transmission pipeline that runs from Adelanto, CA through the Cajon Pass, and the San Bernardino National Forest to Moreno Valley, CA. The Adelanto station will be upgraded in order to move the gas through the new transmission line more efficiently.
The two utilities, which are subsidiaries of Sempra Energy, are seeking rate increases to pay for the $621.3 million project.
