de Blasio Wants to Tax the Mansions

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling for a tax on the most highly priced homes. “I believe the time is now to enact a mansion tax for New York City high value home sales,” said de Blasio while giving his thoughts on the proposed state budget.

“That means homes that start with a sales price of $2 million or higher,” he said. “The people who would be affected can certainly afford this additional tax, and the revenue would be used to keep 25,000 senior citizens in their home at an affordable level. This would be an additional 25,000 senior citizens who would get affordable housing as a result of this proposal.”
