Data Foundry to Build 325K-SF Texas 2

Data Foundry Inc. will soon begin construction on Texas 2, a 325,000-square-foot data center at 4100 Smith School Rd. in southeast Austin. Upon completion by the third quarter of next year, the center will be valued at $200 million.

The company already operates Texas 1 at the location. Both are co-location centers, geared toward providing data center services to multiple clients. The 40-acres on which Texas 1 operates (and on which Texas 2 will be built) offers enough room for the firm to expand its portfolio, or to offer build-to-suit data center services to other companies.

Company officials said they like Austin as a location for disaster recovery, as it has a power grid independent from the rest of the country. Also in Austin’s favor is a low incidence of natural disasters.
