Data Center Going in at Midland International Airport
Big Bend Telecom is partnering with the Permian Basin Regional Planning Council, Region 18 Education Center and other municipalities to establish a data center in Midland, TX. Conversion is already underway on two buildings at 2813 Wright Dr., at the Midland International Airport. The center is expected to open in March 2020.
Neville Haynes with Big Bend Telecom told the Midland Reporter Telegram that the company is in talks with Netflix, Hulu and Apple about leasing space at the center. Cameron Brown, a Big Bend Telecom contractor, indicated that the center is needed to aggregate data coming from Permian Basin well sites, and to get that data to Dallas, Houston and internationally.
Additionally, cities, counties and medical facilities will benefit from the center, as will districts, colleges and universities that “house vast amounts of data, and a data center and network are vital to their mission,” Brown told the Reporter Telegram.
