Dallas, Austin Rank on Top-10 In-Migration Report

Affordability and climbing mortgage rates are pushing people away from more expensive metros, leading them to places such as Atlanta, Phoenix — and Texas. Redfin’s In-Migration Report ranked Austin as 7th for in-migration from other areas, with Dallas following up in 9th place. San Antonio did not rank among the top 10, whereas Houston actually lost population during Q3 2018.

In its report, Redfin analyzed a sample of more than one million users searching for homes across 75 metro areas from July-September 2018. To calculate net inflow and outflow, Redfin calculated the number of users wishing to leave a metro area, and subtracted the number of users wanting to move to the area from another area.
