Cypress College Modernizes with $80M Building for Science, Engineering & Math
It’s all starting to add up for Cypress College. The institution is developing a new $80 million science, engineering and math (SEM) building to replace its current outdated structure. The new SEM building will include 22 classrooms, 25 laboratories, faculty offices, support spaces, and a highly-advanced, domed immersive digital classroom.
Sundt Construction Inc. is building the new facility. The firm’s regional director, Robert Stokes, said Cypress College’s SEM building is one of several education projects Sundt is working on.
Cypress College’s SEM building is the first project to break ground under North Orange County Community College District’s Measure J program, passed by voters in November 2014. A key priority of Measure J is providing modern facilities to support the sciences.
“Cypress College has served the North Orange County students and surrounding communities for over 52 years, and we are thrilled to start construction on this beautiful new addition to our college,” said Cypress College president Dr. JoAnna Schilling.
The new building is slated to open in time for fall semester 2021.
