CTA Cuts Ribbon on Modernized Belmont Transit Hub
The Chicago Transit Authority has cut the ribbon on a $17-million upgrade of the Belmont Transit Center on the city’s Northwest Side. It represented the largest project to date in the city’s $492-million Your New Blue (YNB) program to modernize stations along the O’Hare branch of CTA’s Blue Line.
Upgrades to the Belmont Transit Center include the addition of a new architectural steel canopy for the terminal, designed by the Chicago architecture firm Carol Ross Barney. With other improvements, including new LED lighting, the modernization project represents the first major renovation to the facility since it opened nearly 50 years ago.
Belmont is the ninth of 14 stations to be renewed under the YNB program, and follows a number of other projects that are either completed or underway. YNB represents the largest investment in the Blue Line since it was extended to O’Hare International Airport 30 years ago.
