County Offering Prime Downtown Land

Travis County commissioners voted for staff to begin negotiating with one of five unidentified real estate development firms to sell the 300 block of Guadalupe Street in downtown Austin. The property is currently the site of a parking lot, and was, at one point, the site where Travis County planned to build a new court facility. Voters in 2015 rejected a $287 million bond referendum to fund the courthouse construction.

Despite voting to proceed with negotiation with private developers, the county officials aren’t revealing the identity of the leading bidder. Travis County acquired the property in 2010 for $22 million.
