Construction, Hiring Underway for 144-MW Solar Project
Austin-based RigUp is hiring up to 350 skilled workers to help build the Pflugerville Solar Project, a 144-megawatt, 950-acre development owned by Recurrent Energy. The project, intended to power the equivalent of 25,000 homes and further Austin Energy’s goal of exiting its coal-fired power generation by the end of 2022, broke ground last month.
“The ramping up of the construction of the Pflugerville Solar Project could not have come at a better time,” said Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion. “Our county residents who have been impacted by the recent economic downturn will have access to good jobs with low barriers of entry at a time when they are needed most.”
To support construction of the project, Recurrent Energy recently closed debt and tax equity financing totaling more than $234 million. The tax equity financing was provided by U.S. Bank. Debt was provided by a bank club led by CIT.
