Construction Start Metrics Mixed in Texas Metros
Fall means (somewhat) cooler weather in Texas. It also means an examination of construction start figures, courtesy of Dodge Data & Analytics, which is headquartered in New York City.
Of the four metros, Austin was the only one experiencing year-over-year increases across residential and non-residential construction starts. Overall construction starts in the Capitol City increased 25%. Meanwhile, San Antonio, to the south, saw an annual decrease of 33%.
On a national basis, new construction starts decreased 5%. “The pace of construction starts has clearly slowed over the past three months, following what was unsustainably high levels during May and June,” stated Robert A. Murray, chief economist for Dodge Data & Analytics.
