Commissioners to $3B American Dream Miami: We Approve
Miami-Dade commissioners granted preliminary approval to a $3 billion retail theme park dubbed American Dream Miami. The commission granted Triple Five, the developer of American Dream, its request to allow the approval process to move to Tallahassee, FL, before the application returns to Miami-Dade for a final vote later in 2017.
American Dream Miami is planned as a six-million-square-foot, 200-acre megamall, that would be built near Miami Lakes and Hialeah, FL. The plans are generating controversy, not only from community groups, but also from potential competitors including Simon Property Group and General Growth Properties, which is backing an anti-American Dream Miami group known as the South Florida Taxpayers Alliance.
The commissioners’ vote will mean a three-to-four-month state review process. Commissioners will take a final vote on the development plan in April or May of this year.
