Comic-Con Remains in San Diego Through 2021
Comic-Con International agreed to a new three-year commitment that keeps the prominent pop culture gathering in San Diego through 2021. The contract includes closely-guarded hotel room rate provisions intended to control soaring prices during the four-day July convention.
The new agreement came after the city and organizers persuaded nearly 60 hotels to cap rate increases at no more than 4 percent over 2018 contracted rates during the three-year contract period.
Comic-Con, which draws more than 130,000 attendees, has called San Diego home for nearly a half century. That popularity has resulted in other cities, such as Anaheim and Los Angeles, to compete for the Comic-Con business.
The current contract is set to expire after next year’s show. The new agreement leads into this year’s Comic-Con, scheduled July 19 through July 23.
