Clippers Land Acquisition Approved for $1.8B NBA Arena in Inglewood
The Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center (IBEC) received final approval this week from the Inglewood City Council, fully entitling the development of a $1.8-billion NBA arena in Inglewood. The privately-financed 28-acre campus near West Century Boulevard and South Prairie Avenue, is envisioned to include an 18,000-seat basketball arena, team practice facility and corporate offices for the L.A. Clippers.
The Clippers’ Gillian Zucker says, “Today is a new chapter for the Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center, as we move from the land use entitlement process and look toward construction.”
The unanimous approval of the development agreement provides the terms for Murphy’s Bowl, the entity developing IBEC, to purchase the 13 parcels of publicly-owned property within the arena site for a total purchase price of $66.25 million. The project, expected to break ground in summer of 2021, will open for the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.
