City Will Add Modular Classrooms at Elementary School
As part of Chicago’s efforts to alleviate overcrowding at public schools, Mayor Rahm Emanuel broke ground on a new modular at Columbia Explorers Academy. The addition to this neighborhood elementary school will add six typical-size classrooms and support spaces.
“This modular will provide students and teachers with extra space and facilities necessary to obtain a 21st century education,” Emanuel said. The modular will be constructed by the city’s Public Building Commission (PBC), and is expected to be complete by August.
The city has taken steps to relieve crowded conditions at about three dozen local schools in recent years, via modular and other methods. Currently the PBC also has three new schools in the planning stages citywide, along with annexes to existing facilities.
