City Unveils Framework for Gowanus Rezoning

Connect Apartments is coming up on June 26th in Los Angeles. Here’s a link to find out more about the conference and to register.

Ahead of a proposed rezoning of Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood, the Department of City Planning has released a framework spelling out community priorities. With priorities ranging from adding housing, to protecting against future flooding and sea-level rises, the framework imagines a combination of public and private investment.

“Working together, we can shape a sustainable, inclusive, mixed-use future for Gowanus,” City Council Members Brad Lander and Stephen Levin said in a statement. “This framework points the way.”

Lander and Levin cited “substantial consensus in many areas,” including the need to strengthen the “Gowanus mix” of tenants and real estate: manufacturing, artists and cultural organizations, creative businesses, historic buildings and not-for-profits.

DCP and other city agencies will be on hand for an open house June 27 to discuss the framework. It’s slated for 5 to 8:30 p.m. at P.S. 32, 317 Hoyt St.
