City Launching Regional Small Business Centers

Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) will open five new Regional Small Business Centers next year to provide residents with easier access to business licensing support and information in their communities.

The city will also implement a new Fast-Track Business Signs initiative, allowing businesses to apply for on-premise signs at the same time as their business licenses.

Currently, specialized licensing support is only available at the Small Business Center at City Hall and at periodic events in the community. A 15% increase in BACP funding for 2020 will be used to establish community liaisons at five Regional Small Business Centers.

The Lightfoot administration didn’t specify the locations of the new Small Business Centers. It’s likely, though, that the South and West Sides will be home to at least two of the new centers, following the city’s recent emphasis on economic development for these areas.
