Circuit City Plans Cyber Comeback
Once upon a time, Circuit City was one of the top retailers for electronics in the country. Then, in 2008, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
According to the company’s CEO Ronny Shmoel, Circuit City is going to relaunch as a highly cyber-centric brand with a new brick-and-mortar retail strategy. The e-commerce site intends to go live on February 15, with innovative concepts like a virtual personal shopping assistant, and the use of virtual reality and video chatting.
The site’s virtual components will be supported by IBM Watson’s AI platform. Although the company shuttered its final retail location in 2009, it’s looking into opening kiosk and “store within a store” concepts.
