Chiofaro Co. Plans Waterfront Blueway Along with 600-Foot Tower

Even as it moves forward on planning for a 600-foot-tall building at the edge of Boston Harbor, the Chiofaro Co. is emphasizing plans to develop a “Blueway” open space in partnership with the New England Aquarium. The Blueway would be built on part of a site now covered by the Boston Harbor Garage (pictured), and would increase public access to the waterfront.

“We have an unbelievable opportunity at Central Wharf,” said developer Don Chiofaro. “There’s only one way to unlock that opportunity, and that’s to take the garage down.”

Chiofaro told the Boston Globe he’s planning to begin seeking approvals from the Boston Planning & Development Agency this summer, even as the nonprofit Conservation Law Foundation and residents of a nearby condominium tower plan to file lawsuits over the proposed waterfront tower’s height.
