Chicago’s the No. 2 US Destination for Do-It-Yourself Movers

An up-to-the-minute method of determining a region’s population growth? One-way U-Haul rentals into the region. By that measure, Chicago is the nation’s second-ranked destination city among do-it-yourself movers, with rentals growing 11% from a year ago, and ahead of Sun Belt metro areas including Orlando, Austin and Charlotte.

“Chicago is a walkable city with access to some of the best food in the country,” said Rick Rottweiler, U-Haul Company of North Shore Chicago president. “It’s truly a destination, and the people lucky enough to live here love their city. Our neighborhoods are charming, and there are giant green spaces throughout the city.”

People moving to Chicago, he continued, are looking for “an exciting city with family-friendly fun. We have some of the largest festivals in the U.S., and our beaches go for miles. With all of the buildings being refurbished downtown, the city is growing again.”
