Registrants for the 2020 Bank of America Chicago Marathon have the option of requesting a refund or deferring their entrance fee to the 2021, 2022 or 2023 races. The race typically draws about 45,000 participants; last year’s marathon had an economic impact of $338 million on the city, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Launched in 1977, the Chicago Marathon is one of six Abbott World Major Marathons held annually. Of the other five, only the Tokyo Marathon proceeded as scheduled this year.

1987’s Chicago Marathon didn’t happen because then-sponsor Beatrice Foods pulled its support, the Tribune reported.
