Chartwell’s Tsunis to Chair Battery Park City Authority
Chartwell Hotels CEO George Tsunis has been named chairman of the Battery Park City Authority, succeeding Dennis Mehiel, who resigned last week following a six-year tenure.
Tsunis was appointed to the board, which oversees the 92-acre planned development on the Lower Manhattan waterfront, last year by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He also chairs the Nassau Health Care Corp., the health system that operates Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY.
Additionally, Tsunis serves on the board of directors of the New York Convention Center Development Corporation, and the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation. As BPCA chair, Tsunis says he will “endeavor each day” to validate the trust placed in him by other members of the authority’s board, “guided by the principle that our residents and community will always be priority one.”
