Brookfield Plans MXU for Manhasset Macy’s Site
Brookfield Properties plans to redevelop the parking lot near the Manhasset, NY Macy’s into a mixed-use project. The 52-year-old Macy’s would remain open under the proposal Brookfield presented earlier this month to the Greater Manhasset Council of Civic Associations.
Known as Manhasset Square, the project would bring 355 rental apartments, 72,000 square feet of office, 73,400 square feet of additional retail and a 200-room hotel to the 16 acres of parking lot that Brookfield will purchase from Macy’s, Long Island Business News (LIBN) reported. The developer also aims to add 2,271 parking spaces as part of the project.
A formal submission of the plan to the Town of North Hempstead is expected within the next 60 days, the LIBN reported. Since several zoning changes and variances would be required under the property’s current zoning, the project will be submitted to the town as a Planned Unit Development.
