British Airways Parent Orders 200 Boeing 737 MAX Airplanes
International Airlines Group (IAG), parent company of British Airways, plans to build its future fleet with the Boeing 737 MAX and placed an order to purchase 200 MAX jets. The deal signed at the Paris Air Show would be valued at more than $24 billion, per list prices.
It also is a huge boost at a critical time for one of the Puget Sound’s economic engines. The planes are produced in Renton, WA. But, Boeing’s reputation and bottom line have been battered following two deadly crashes that have grounded the plane and shaken public confidence in the giant aircraft manufacturer.
IAG’s Willie Walsh says “We’re very pleased to sign this letter of intent with Boeing, and are certain that these aircraft will be a great addition to IAG’s short-haul fleet. We have every confidence in Boeing, and expect that the aircraft will make a successful return to service in the coming months having received approval from the regulators.”
In addition to British Airways, IAG operates European airlines Aer Lingus, Iberia, Vueling and LEVEL.
