Bridge Breaks Ground on Excelsior Funded Development
San Francisco-based Bridge Housing Corporation broke ground on a 137-unit affordable housing development at 4840 Mission St. in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood. The $121-million project is one of the first new 100% affordable housing developments built in District 11, and one of the first major projects in the Excelsior in nearly 25 years.
The five-story project will include a community room, bicycle parking, public art, and an expanded branch of the Mission Neighborhood Health Center, which will offer low-cost medical, behavioral health, and dental services.
Predevelopment funding will come from the voter approved 2015 Affordable Housing General Obligation Bond, and construction and permanent funding will come from the 2019 Affordable Housing General Obligation Bond.
The site formerly served as the Valente Marini Perata & Co. Funeral Home. Bridge acquired the land in 2017 with assistance from the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development and the San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund.
