Brewery, Apartments Planned for Jefferson Park Firehouse
The vacant Jefferson Park Firehouse at 4835 N. Lipps Ave. could be refurbished into a brewery and nine two-bedroom apartments.
Ambrosia Homes plans to add two stories to the previously two-story, city-owned property that was built in 1906. Lake Effect Brewing Company would operate its second Northwest Chicago facility on the ground floor of the building, while the upper floors would contain the apartments. Ambrosia would spend $2.4 million on the project.
Lake Effect would operate a tap room with outdoor seating at the site.
A zoning change would be necessary before the project could begin, 45th Ward Alderman John Arena said. The design would reinstall architectural elements that had been removed from the structure.
A community meeting on the proposal will take pace at 6:30 p.m. March 8 at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence.
