Boutique Hotel Opens Its Doors in Hyde Park
Olympia Hotel Management has opened Sophy Hyde Park, a 98-room lodging property in Hyde Park that’s reportedly the first boutique hotel in this South Side neighborhood. Developed by the Olympia Companies and SMART Hotels, the property’s name is an allusion to Hyde Park’s cultural and educational history, and is derived from the Greek word “sophia,” meaning wisdom and dedication to excellence through the pursuit of knowledge.
Designed as a four-diamond property, Sophy Hyde Park is a preferred hotel of the University of Chicago, located in the neighborhood. Last month, a spokeswoman for the Sophy told Chicago Business Journal that visitors to the university are indeed a target market for the new boutique hotel, but other visitors to the South Side are on the developers’ radar as well.
Chicago-based GREC Architects are the architects of Sophy Hyde Park while the design firm of Stonehill Taylor is responsible for all its interiors.
