Boston Universities Receive Approval to House 2,044 Students in Nine Hotels Across City
Five Boston universities - Boston College, Emerson College, Fisher College, Northeastern University and Suffolk University – have received approval from the city of Boston to house 2,044 students in nine hotels across the city as part of a strategy to reduce the density of on-campus student housing amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Students from Suffolk University will occupy the entirety of The Boxer, a boutique hotel located in Boston’s West End as well as the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Wyndham Hotel and the Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall.
Northeastern plans to house 305 freshmen in the entirety of Boston’s MidTown Hotel for the year and 843 students at The Westin Copley Place for the fall semester. The school chose those two hotels in part because of their proximity to the school’s campus. A number of hotel operators reportedly reached out to Northeastern, which has an undergraduate population of approximately 20,000, to offer assistance for housing students.
