Bellmead Moving Forward on $11M Ballpark
Officials in Bellmead, TX took another step toward contributing funds to an $11 million ballpark that, if it goes through, will be home to the Waco BlueCats. The BlueCats are part of the still-forming, and independent Southwest League of Baseball. The city council authorized its first of two readings for a proposal, in which $4 million would come from the city. That money, in turn, would come from economic development funds.
City leaders are also considering using $2 million of the economic development funds, and borrowing another $2 million to cover the $4 million contribution. According to City Manager Bo Thomas, economic development sales tax revenue could pay back the borrowed $2 million over 20 years.
If all goes according to plan, the BlueCats could be playing at their new Bellmead ballpark, located near Loop 340 and Interstate 35, in spring 2018.
