Beaverton Receives $100K for Affordable Housing

Metro awarded $100,000 in funds to Beaverton, OR, to come up with strategies that will help preserve currently unregulated affordable housing in the city, as well as to identify opportunities for developing new affordable housing. Metro is an elected regional government that provides regional services for the Portland metropolitan area.

Approximately half of all renter households in the city were paying more than 30% of their income for housing, according to 2013 metrics from the city. With the grant, the city can develop strategies to help expand affordable housing, and avoid low-income resident displacement.

“Coupled with the city’s Five Year Housing Action Plan, the city hopes to make continued progress on adding to our current affordable housing units in Beaverton,” said Cheryl Twete, community development director. The Five Year Housing Action Plan represents a breakdown of actions necessary to achieve housing goals from the city’s Comprehensive Plan, along with budget requirements.
