Baker Extends Work-from-Home Mandate to May 4

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has extended the commonwealth’s work-from-home mandate to May 4 for non-essential businesses.

The Baker-Polito administration also affirmed that the stay-at-home advisory remains in effect, although it stops short of the orders issued by governors in other states.

Lodging properties came in for new restrictions under the new guidance. Hotels, motels, inns and other short-term residential rentals may only be used for efforts related to fighting COVID-19, such as housing for front-line health workers, or for Massachusetts residents who have been otherwise displaced from their residences.

“We appreciate the huge impact on our economy, and on our daily lives, that these decisions have, and they have not been made lightly,” Baker said at a news conference Tuesday. “I know this is difficult to hear.”
