Austin in the Running for Military Futures Command Site

Austin is one of five finalist cities under consideration by the U.S. Army for its new military Futures Command site. Other cities making the cut include Boston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Raleigh, NC. Other cities previously in the running – specifically, Dallas and Houston – were notified they are no longer candidates for the center.

Representatives from the Army indicated that a final decision on the site could be made by the end of June 2018.

The Futures Command project is expected to employ approximately 500 people, and is considered to be the Army’s most significant reorganization since the early 1970s. The center, wherever it is built, will be used for the Army’s top six modernization projects, including tactical missile system improvement.

Army officials note they want a high-tech, creative culture for the location, as opposed to a more traditional Army post. Other requirements include a local workforce with experience in chemistry, computer hardware and software, electronics and mechanical systems.

The Connect Industrial conference will take place July 11. For more information, or to register, log on here.
