AT&T’s Whitacre Tower Hits the Sales Block
Icahn Enterprises has hired CBRE to market its nearly one-million-square-foot Whitacre Tower, a downtown Dallas office high-rise. The 37-story tower is the largest building in AT&T’s four-building headquarter campus, and the sale is anticipated to bring in at least $250 million.
AT&T’s lease on the property – the only one in downtown Dallas it doesn’t own – runs through 2030. The telecom giant has announced plans to spend more than $100 million to upgrade the four-block area it occupies. Icahn has owned the property for 10 years.
The Whitacre Tower at 208 S. Akard St. delivered in 1982, and was originally occupied by Southwestern Bell’s regional offices. AT&T relocated its headquarters from San Antonio in 2008 to downtown Dallas, where it now employs more than 6,000.
