Arianna Huffington Stepping Away from Huffington Post, Launching New Venture

In the coming weeks, Arianna Huffington will step away from the Huffington Post, the digital media entity she co-founded and built up for the past 11 years. As editor-in-chief, the 66-year old entrepreneur will leave her position to focus on her health and wellness start-up, Thrive Global.

Thrive Global is slated for launch in November, and will work with companies to focus on the well-being of their employees. The business is beginning at a time when the focus on the health and well-being of corporate employees is blooming.

The start-up recently received Series A funding from Lerer Hippeau Ventures, which was what spurred Arianna to re-evaluate her contract with the Huffington Post that positioned her as both president and editor-in-chief through 2019.

In 2011, AOL acquired the Huffington Post for $315 million. Despite ups and downs throughout her career, AOL’s CEO, Tim Armstrong, said, “Arianna is a visionary who built The Huffington Post into a truly transformative news platform.”
