Apple Takes a Bite Out of Macy’s Office Space

Apple is joining Google and Facebook among tech giants with an expanding office presence on Manhattan’s West Side. The New York Post reported that Apple will lease 220,000 square feet of space soon to be vacated by Macy’s at Vornado Realty Trust’s 11 Penn Plaza, two blocks south of Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.

Macy’s, which recently announced that it would close its downtown Cincinnati offices, now apparently will vacate Manhattan also, relocating its corporate headquarters to Long Island City. Apple, which has smaller New York City offices at 100-104 Fifth Ave., has been in the market for additional space.

“Although it has a beautiful modern headquarters in Cupertino, CA, and had toured the new buildings around Hudson Yards, Apple fell in love with 11 Penn,” a source told the Post. However, the tech firm committed to just five years at 11 Penn, with an option to extend.

Connect New York 2020 is set to take place on Wednesday, April 29 at Upper Story by Charlie Palmer. For more information, or to register, click here.
