Apple Plans $1B New Campus in Austin, Adding Jobs Across the U.S.

Apple revealed plans for a $1-billion campus on a 133-acre site in North Austin, TX. The Cupertino, CA-based company also announced plans to establish new sites with more than 1,000 employees each in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, CA. Apple plans to expand in other U.S. cities over the next three years, too, including Pittsburgh, New York, Boulder, CO, Boston and Portland, OR.

Apple’s Tim Cook says, “Talent, creativity and tomorrow’s breakthrough ideas aren’t limited by region or zip code, and, with this new expansion, we’re redoubling our commitment to cultivating the high-tech sector and workforce nationwide.”

Apple’s Austin site will include 50 acres of preserved open space, and workspaces will be powered by 100% renewable energy. The campus will be located less than a mile from its existing facilities, and will initially accommodate 5,000 additional employees, with the capacity to grow to 15,000.

Jobs created at the new campus will include a broad range of functions, including engineering, R&D, operations, finance, sales and customer support.
