Appellate Court Overturns Annulment of Inwood Rezoning
The Appellate Division of state Supreme Court reinstated New York City’s Inwood rezoning in a unanimous verdict handed down Thursday, Crain’s New York Business reported. A Supreme Court panel had annulled the Northern Manhattan rezoning, intended to bring 5,000 housing units to the neighborhood, last December.
In that ruling, the court said the city didn’t do a thorough enough analysis of the rezoning’s potential socioeconomic impacts. The Appellate Division disagreed, though, writing that the city had taken a “hard look” at all required issues in its review process.
Taconic Partners and a joint venture of Maddd Equities and Joy Construction had planned mixed-use developments in Inwood, which were put into limbo by the annulment.
“I believe the Appellate Division’s unanimous decision was both legally correct and also a big boost for affordable housing and economic development in NYC,” Joy Construction’s Eli Weiss told Crain’s.
