American Airlines Pouring $550M into 330-Acre Tech Ops-Tulsa
American Airlines is planning a major investment into its maintenance base facility, Tech Ops-Tulsa. The $550 million redo will provide upgrades to the entire 3.3-million-square-foot hangar and shop space, situated on 330 acres at Tulsa International Airport. The location is AA’s largest base maintenance facility.
The new project will include construction on Hangar 7, a 193,000-square-foot widebody-capable hanger and base-support building, as well as improvements to existing infrastructure, including roof replacements, utility, ramp repairs and IT. The renovations will begin in early 2021, and will take an estimated seven years to complete.
Tech Ops-Tulsa employs more than 5,500, and is responsible for nearly half of AA’s overall maintenance work. “The base is approaching its 75th year of operations under the American umbrella, and it’s most certainly in desperate need of an infrastructure improvement,” American’s Erik Olund told Tulsa World.
