Ambitious $234M Sports Park Planned in Kansas City Metro
A development group is preparing to break ground later this month on Gateway Sports Village, a $234-million sports-anchored, mixed-use development southeast of Kansas City, MO. PG LLC’s plans include 14 lighted artificial-turf soccer fields, an 86,000-square-foot field house, three hotels with a total of 540 rooms, and 334,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including 21,000 square feet of restaurants.
The 200-acre project in Grandview, MO, is scheduled to begin next month, following approval of $61 million in tax increment financing by the Grandview Board of Aldermen. The four-phased complex is expected to be completed by 2022.
PG LLC is led by Deron Cherry, a former Kansas City Chiefs football player, Lee’s Summit, Mo-based Pycior + Co., and the Heartland Soccer Assn. Populous, one of the world’s leading sports stadium architects, is designing the project.
