Amazon to Build West Texas Wind Farm

Seattle-headquartered Amazon Inc. is planning to build a large wind farm in Scurry County of West Texas, one that will yield enough megawatt hours of electricity to power 90,000 households. Amazon has been building wind and solar farms in Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia to help run its data centers.

Though Amazon doesn’t have data centers connected to Texas’ electrical grid, it does have a large infrastructure, with 10 facilities employing some 10,000 workers throughout the state. The Texas wind farm is scheduled to open late next year, with more than 100 turbines.
